It will clear dense surface scrub of 3 metres in height and trees with a trunk diameter of 15cm, and it will also take out booby traps and trip wires. Clearance rates are dependant on the terrain and soil type with a maximum of 3000 square metres per hour. A more realistic average in the field is 1800 square metres per hour. Based on extensive field operations, it has been calculated that a group of four MK4 machines properly operated and maintained over a 200 day year for 8 hours per day will clear terrain at a cost of less than £0.35 per square metre. This cost includes all spares, repairs, field support and capital cost amortisation over a five year period.
The Aardvark Mk4 effectively clears anti-tank and anti-personnel landmines by either detonation or disruption, and is capable of operating in the majority of terrain and environmental conditions encountered in minefields throughout the world. The Mk4 is effective in a variety of soil types and mixes on both flat and undulating ground with gradients of up to 30%.
