Aardvark has designed and fitted a flail system for an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) such as the AFV 432 series and M113. This flail is specifically designed to rapidly clear scatterable munitions and anti-personnel mines only. The system has twin independent rotors working in unison to give a cleared path of 3 metres, and the two rotors can be raised vertically for transit. The rotation of the flail can be changed within 3 seconds to enable devices in difficult positions, such as ditches, to be cleared. The host vehicle is preferred as the power source, but an auxiliary power pack can be fitted if required.
Aardvark also carried out a design study to fit a flail to an M113 fitted with a dozer blade. The existing transmission, engine and differentials would be replaced with a Syncro Track power pack, and a rotating chain flail would be fitted at the opposite end to the dozer blade. The vehicle would be driverless and operated by remote control.
